WATERFALLS
he gorge of Polylimnio with its lakes and its waterfalls is in the Municipality of Voufrades, at a distance of 15km from our hotel. After walking for about 5 minutes along a small, modelled path, through rich vegetation, and after crossing some picturesque bridges, you will find yourselves in a hidden paradise of small lakes and waterfalls, surrounded by olive groves and vineyards. The 15 lakes in total, which have various peculiar names, such as Mavrolimna, Kadi, Kadoula, Ticherou, lake of the Italian, of Panagos or of Stathoula, were well hidden for many years. It is only recently that they became widely known to the public and that nature lovers started to visit them.
In the summer, many of those who prefer the fresh water of lakes come swim in one of the lakes of Polylimnio, such as lake Kadoula (small heart), which owes its name to its shape, which resembles a heart. The waterfall offers a unique experience to its visitors, the most daring of whom climb the rocks around the lake and take impressive dives in its deep waters.
The small gorges, the rich vegetation and the magnificent waterfalls turn a 3km-long hike of medium difficulty, into a unique and unforgettable experience. The waters of the gorge come from Messopotamos and, after crossing Tzanes River, in Petalidi, end up in the embrace of the Messinian Bay. If you follow the gorge downhill, you will reach a cave with beautiful butterflies. Polylimnio is very easy to find. Follow the road from Kalamata to Pylos all the way to the village of Kazarma and the village of Charavgi, near it. Charavgi is where the path to Polylimnio starts (there is a sign pointing in the direction of Polylimnio, on the main road).
