EPIDAURUS – MYCENAE – NAUPLION
Epidaurus is a historical city on the eastern part of the prefecture of Argolis. It is built at the foot of Mounts Arachnaio, Coryphaio and Tithio, where based on mythology Asclepius was born. The city owes its name to its third ruler, who was also a hero of the city, Epidaurus son of Argos and Evadni. It is worth visiting for its archaeological findings, the museum and the famous ancient theatre.
Mycenaes was an ancient city in Αrgolida. It used to be close to the mountain Tritos and opposite to the Argolikos gulf. Sliman’s excavations, brought to the light the ancient city that Homer praised in his epics. Unique discoveries of the extended area are held in the newly built archaeological museum.
Nauplion, known also as Anapli, is the capital of the prefecture of Argolis and the main port of eastern Peloponnese. It is one of the most picturesque cities in Greece, capital of the Greek state from 1828 to 1833. It is known mainly for Bourtzi, a small fortress built on an islet in the port, and also for Palamidi, a Venetian fortress overlooking the city.
